samki, what is it like?

But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. ACTS 1:8

We asked a recent matriculant, who grew up in our little congregation to share her experience as a Christian, young woman setting out into the world.

her Testimony

I greet you all in the name of Christ Jesus, my name is Reoikantse Oatlegile Mokgothu but I’m known to most as Samki. I was raised in a church-going family but had little knowledge about Christ until 2017 when the gospel was explained in Sunday School. But I didn’t know what I was doing, and I lost the way. I went to WOLZA Summer Camp in 2021 and there my counsellor explained what salvation is because I had it all wrong and it was 2021 when I gave my life to Christ and started the journey.

Her gap year

I heard about Word of Life South Africa's Discipleship Training Centre (DTC) multiple times at Summer Camp, and I grew an interest in the program. I was greatly moved by their initiative and their drive to bring the youth closer to Christ. I asked about the program and prayed about joining the program sometime after I completed school and God answered my prayer and I got to join the Genesis programme for 2024.

Student Living

I am privileged to be living in a loving community of young people who want to get to know and serve in the mission field. It is not easy living with people you don’t know too well but, man! we have to make it work someway somehow but I’m comforted and encouraged by the ministry that we do together as a team. Being here at Word of Life South Africa has opened my eyes to many things and how important it is to pour the gospel into the youth because we are the future of the church.

Missions Trips and Ministry

I honestly can’t remember how many churches I've been to in the past 2 months but that’s one thing we are practising here: to visit and build relationships with local churches and who knows we might pop in to visit my old church one day.

I have done quite a lot these past few months like teaching, leading small groups, dancing, counselling young people, and even cleaning the property that we live in, and all of this was done for the glory of God. Serving in these spaces has really encouraged me greatly to go out and serve God in big and small ways.

Something that I am going to be challenged with here is support raising for Missions Trips all over South Africa and outside of South Africa. This is something I’m really excited about because of the work I am going to be doing at these various Missions Trips and the support and prayers of the church will be something I will need greatly as the time for these Missions Trip approaches.
